The YALI RLC SA Sustainable Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Program 2022 – Cohort 1 is now accepting applications.

YALI RLC SA WASH Program

The WASH program is a collaboration between YALI RLC-SA and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to equip young leaders working in water supply and sanitation, hygiene, and/or water resource management with skills and attitudes that will allow them to identify opportunities to improve water security and access to sanitation services, saving lives, reducing extreme poverty, and strengthening communities.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a groundbreaking attempt to invest in Africa’s future leaders. The University of South Africa’s Graduate School of Business Leadership in Midrand hosts the YALI Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa (RLC-SA). The RLC-mission SA’s is to develop critical thinkers capable of solving complex, multidisciplinary problems, foster entrepreneurial and innovative thinking, and promote cross-border communication and multicultural collaboration. The RLC SA helps young African leaders enhance their leadership abilities by offering basic training on current African challenges as well as specialized training in three main areas: business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management.

YALI RLC SA WASH Program | Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Young leaders (from the governmental, business, and civil society sectors) who are involved in and capable of identifying projects to enhance water security in Southern Africa via safe water supply and sanitation, hygiene, and/or long-term water resource management;
  • Demonstrated dedication to making a good difference in their communities, nations, and the continent of Africa;
  • Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia, or Zimbabwean citizen;
  • Ability to devote 4 weeks to an online program and 2.5 weeks to in-person training.
