World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program (RSMFP) 2022 (Funded)

The World Bank Robert S McNamara Fellowship Program (RSMFP) 2022 is now accepting applications.

The RSMFP connects aspiring development economists from poor countries with World Bank research economists, providing the fellows with unique chances to participate in rigorous policy-relevant research at the World Bank’s Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC).

Fellows will spend eight months (September to May each year) at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., working under the supervision of experts from the World Bank’s Development Impact Evaluation (DIME) and Development Research Group divisions on high-quality, policy-relevant research projects.

Fellows will study current research standards, gain new econometric skills, and network with renowned researchers in their area through working with World Bank DEC experts and their external academic colleagues from top institutions.

They will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take part in rigorous policy-relevant research and broaden their view on possible development issues and how their research might solve obstacles in underdeveloped countries.

Program Feautres

Professional experience: Fellows will work on World Bank projects under the direct supervision of World Bank DEC researchers, get training in cutting-edge research methodologies and technology, and interact with World Bank operations. Fellows may contribute to DEC’s published work, co-author with DEC researchers, join field missions, or actively engage with World Bank customers, depending on the nature of the initiatives.

Capacity building: At the outset of the program, fellows will get a one-week technical onboarding, which will include instruction on reproducible research procedures.

Fellows will participate in hands-on training and seminars led by leading economists throughout the program to further develop their abilities. Fellows will improve their abilities to identify, understand, and write about critical development policy issues by working with DEC economists.

Research dissemination: Fellows will be asked to produce a blog based on their fellowship research for dissemination within DEC. This is a chance for them to highlight their research and contribute to policy conversations on development. The best four blogs will be featured on DEC’s Let’s Talk Development blog each year.

Benefits

For an 8-month fellowship, the RSMFP offers an excellent salary, totaling $42,750 net of income taxes per fellow (paid in monthly installments). The World Bank’s HR Operations section will assist the selected candidates with their G4 visa application because the fellows will be hosted at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
