The University of Bristol’s Centre for Ethics in Medicine is accepting applications for the Wellcome Trust Masters Scholarship for the academic year 2022/2023.

The MSc by Research program is offered by the Department of Population Health. The full-time program lasts one year while the part-time program lasts two years. Students interested in Medical Ethics may enroll in this program and complete a Bioethics project (which may include a legal component) under the supervision of the Centre for Ethics in Medicine.

The degree has no teaching component, however, the Centre for Ethics in Medicine will offer in-house training as needed.

Students may get extra training in the following areas, depending on their previous credentials and the nature of the project they will be working on:

Research methods in bioethics
Health care ethics theory
Health care law

Participation in current programs, such as the BSc in Bioethics, will be required for some of these sessions. Research seminars and supervisor meetings give further instruction.

Worth of Scholarship

The following items will be provided for successful applicants:

Funding to fund their MSc-R tuition expenses (about £4,500 for a full year of study)
A £16,000 student stipend
Expenses for research, such as data collecting, transcription, and/or travel/conferences

Wellcome Trust Masters Scholarship in Bioethics | Eligibility Criteria

Candidates holding a first-class honors degree (or equivalent) will be the most competitive. A bachelor’s degree (or worldwide equivalent) in a topic related to the planned research, However, the minimum requirements to note are:

Candidates must have a second-class honors degree or above (or international equivalent).
Although projects must fall within the subject area (below) and incorporate an ethical and/or legal component connected to healthcare, applicants may come from any relevant field.
Please note that if English is not your first language, you must complete the English Language requirement of Profile B. The admissions staff will examine this at the second step of the application process.
International students are encouraged to apply but should be aware that financing is limited.
Covers that are available MSc-R tuition expenses for domestic students; overseas students’ tuition prices
As a result, you’ll have to cover the difference in tuition costs on your own.
Clinicians and other professionals are encouraged to apply, however they should be aware that the stipend is as stated above.

How to Apply for the Wellcome Trust Masters Scholarship in Bioethics

By the deadline, applications must be submitted to [email protected]. Candidates who have been shortlisted will be invited to an interview. In mid-June, interviews are likely to take place.
There are two stages to the application process: the first is to distribute available financing, and the second is to acquire a study offer.
The first step is to apply for Wellcome Trust MSc-R funding. If you are accepted into the MSc-R program, you will get a statement expressing our intention to finance you if you are successful. The second stage is to apply for a spot in the MSc-R program (which we will sponsor).
To be eligible for the Wellcome Trust-funded MSc-R, candidates must pass both levels.
