The Vilcek Foundation will present three $50,000 Creative Promise Prizes to young immigrant musicians who have demonstrated exceptional early musical success.

The Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise encourage immigrant professionals in their early to mid-career stages who have proven extraordinary achievements. The Vilcek Foundation promotes appreciation of the arts and sciences while raising awareness of immigrant contributions in the United States.

Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise in Music | Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have non-American parents and were born outside the United States of America.
  • As of December 31, 2022, you must not be older than 38 years old (born on or after January 1, 1984). Applicants who were born on or after January 1, 1982, and had professional interruptions due to medical, military, parental, or caregiving leave will be considered.
  • Have spent at least four years in the United States (or immigrated to the United States on or before December 31, 2018).
  • Choose one of the following options: a naturalized citizen or permanent resident of the United States; an H-1B or O-1 visa holder with a valid visa stamp; an H-4 visa holder with a valid EAD card; a DACA recipient; an asylee or asylum seeker who has sought for asylum and has a valid EAD card.
  • Have a minimum of five years of professional music experience.
    Not be enrolled as a full-time student.
  • At least three singles or albums have been released on big or indie labels.
  • Have spent a total of at least four years in the United States.
  • Make plans to work in the United States.
  • You must not have previously received a Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in any category.

How to Apply for the Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise in Music

You’ll be expected to:

  • Personal information should be provided.
  • Upload a PDF of your CV that includes a list of your past performances and other professional endeavors.
  • Upload a PDF including proof of your legal immigration status as well as your date of birth.
  • Provide URL URLs to up to five work examples with a total duration of no more than 15 minutes.
  • Up to five press clippings concerning your work are acceptable.
  • Answer all three essay questions.
  1. Describe the most important projects you’ve worked on. They’re curious in the motivation behind each project, your artistic roots, and the creative techniques you acquired as a result of your personal or professional journey. (maximum of 2,000 characters)
  2. What do you intend to accomplish with your work, and how do you believe it contributes to the growth of music as an art form? (maximum of 2,000 characters)
  3. Describe your immigration to the United States and how your experience as an immigrant has influenced and enriched your musical style. (maximum 1,500 characters)
  • Names and contact information for two references are required.
  • If you were born on or after January 1, 1982, you must sign an age requirement self-attestation.
