University of Bonn Argelander Scholarships 2022 (Fully Funded to Germany)

The Argelander Scholarships will be available at the University of Bonn for PhD students from Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply for the prize, which provides doctorate students from the designated areas with research stays in Bonn (3–12 months).

The goal is to provide funding for doctoral candidates from African, Latin American, and Asian countries in order to promote scientific exchange with partners, particularly in regions where scientific production has been relatively marginalized, and to promote international cooperation in the priority regions identified in the partnership strategy.

University of Bonn Argelander Scholarships 2022 | Details

This financing line aims to strengthen cooperation between Bonn scientists and their partners in the aforementioned locations, as well as to extend such relationships in terms of early-career researcher promotion.

A formal or informal collaboration agreement between the doctorate candidate’s home institution and the host institute in Bonn should already exist when the application is submitted. The Bonn researchers who are hosting the event serve as applicants.

Please keep in mind that the application may only be filed by a University of Bonn professor. You may send your application materials in either German or English.

University of Bonn Argelander Scholarships | Eligibility Criteria

International doctoral applicants obtaining a doctorate at a university or research facility in Africa, Latin America, or Asia are given preference.
Doctoral applicants who are currently enrolled at the University of Bonn to pursue their Ph.D. are not eligible for financing.

Doctorates should be completed at the recipient’s native institution (to avoid brain drain).

Benefits 

  • A trip stipend (depending on country of origin)
  • A monthly scholarship of € 1,500 (with extra funding for accompanying family members of up to € 300 for a spouse and € 250 for a kid) is available.
  • After the scholarship has been granted, a research expenditure allocation of up to € 300 per month may be submitted to the International Office. Your scholarship award will include instructions on how to apply for the allowance.

How to Apply for the University of Bonn Argelander Scholarships

 A full-time professor from the University of Bonn must submit the application. Each host/professor may evaluate up to two applications. Doctoral applicants must present a motivating letter that has been signed.

The following items should be included in the application:

  • Online form
  • Description of the project (maximum of 8 pages in PDF):
  • A description of the research project that will be undertaken during the person’s stay in Bonn;
  • Please compose your suggestion to appeal to a broad range of people.
  • The host’s reasons for inviting the PhD candidate
  • An idea of how the doctorate candidate will be incorporated into the host institution (workplace, involvement in teaching, and research activities), as well as an outline of how the project will be overseen in Bonn.
  • The PhD candidate’s curriculum vitae and motivating letter (PDF)
