You are eligible to apply for the internship program if you are enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or in the last year of a Bachelor’s degree; or within one year of graduation (recent grads) from a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program.

As a UN Intern, you will have the opportunity to work directly with excellent and inspirational career professionals and senior management, attend high-profile conferences, participate in meetings, and contribute to analytical work and UN organizational policy.

You will initially take on as much responsibility as you are capable of; nevertheless, it is up to you to enhance your potential for progress.

Applicants for the United Nations Internships 2022-2023 should:

  • Be enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or in the last year of a Bachelor’s program; or have graduated from a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program within one year?
  • Have a strong knowledge of the English or French languages?
  • Be neither a child nor a sibling of a member of the United Nations Secretariat?

How to Apply: Interested and qualified applicants for the UN internships 2022-2023 may apply online for their selected internship position via the UN online job search.

Select the ‘internship’ category on the UN’s jobs website and search for internships in your area.

When you’ve selected an internship opportunity that interests you, go to the job information and instructions for applying.

Note:

Duration: The internship program usually lasts at least two months but may last up to six months. You must begin your internship before or within one year after graduating if you are chosen.

Cost: Interns at the United Nations are not compensated by the organization. Either the interns or their sponsoring schools are responsible for all travel, insurance, lodging, and living expenses.

Visas: You will be in charge of getting and funding the required visas.

Travel: You will plan and pay for your trip to the United Nations, where you will be an intern.

Medical insurance: You are liable for any expenditures incurred as a result of accidents or sickness while on the internship and must provide evidence of significant worldwide medical insurance coverage.

Confidentiality: You must be discreet and keep any unpublished material gained during the internship secret, and you may not publish any papers based on such information.

Academic Credit: You may be able to get academic credit for your internship from your higher education school. Check with your institution to see whether internships are eligible for academic credit.
