1. TYPICAL TUITION FEES IN AUSTRALIA FOR MEDICAL STUDY

International students are reported to benefit from Australian universities’ extensive scholarship programs that cover tuition and living expenses.

Tuition rates for undergraduate medical programs typically range from 57,760 to 71,488 Australian dollars (about 40.000 to 49,100 Euros per year) and are subject to annual increases. It’s worth noting that some institutes have predicted that medical school costs might climb by as much as 270 percent, bringing the yearly cost to $37,000 and the overall cost of a medical degree to $180,000. This is why a large number of people find it difficult to study medicine.

3. REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY MEDICINE IN AUSTRALIA

Medical school (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery — 6 years)

Students who apply for an undergraduate medical degree in Australia will be judged on the following criteria:

Academic merit (as evidenced by marks in A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate, or comparable qualification). BTEC diplomas are not regarded as appropriate for admittance into Australian medical schools.)

(The format of the interview will differ based on the school.) Some interviews are official and must be attended in person, while others are informal chats conducted through Skype or phone.)

Students must have finished their school leaving qualification (or be in the last year of study for that qualification) with high marks in the appropriate subjects and a minimum score on an aptitude test in order to be eligible to apply.

Applicants are asked to interview for a spot on the programme if they meet the academic and aptitude exam standards.

There are minor differences in academic prerequisites, but practically all medical schools will require you to have a high passing grade in Chemistry (at A2 or Higher Level in IB). Math will be required in most cases, and physics or biology are also encouraged.

What aptitude test do I need?

The International Student Admissions Test is required by all but one of the Australian institutions that need aptitude test results as part of your application (ISAT). The University of Adelaide is an exception, as it administers its own aptitude exam, the PQA.

The Australian Council for Educational Research administers the ISAT (ACER). It’s a three-hour multiple-choice computer test. There are no exam dates fixed in stone, and you can take the test whenever you choose within an 11-month span.

The ISAT is an exam that assesses reasoning abilities, logical deductions, and decision making. It does not test specific topic knowledge, hence it is not something that can be prepared for. However, some familiarity with the types of questions posed can be beneficial, and practice exams are available on the ACER website. It’s worth noting that you may only take ISAT once per 12 months.
