Storytelling Through Augmented Reality (AR) Workshops and Grants 2022

Do you consider yourself an interdisciplinary artist with a passion for civic journalism, digital activism, online democracy, and social justice? Do you live in Nairobi, Kampala, or Dar es Salaam and wish to include Augmented Reality (AR) into your creative practice? Electric South, BlackRhino VR, Ona Stories, and The Ford Foundation welcome artists and technologists to apply for the Storytelling Through Augmented Reality (AR) Workshops and Grants 2022, which will focus on civic and social concerns and digital storytelling.

The “Storytelling using AR Workshops” will take place in three cities throughout East Africa over the course of two days. Ten to fifteen multidisciplinary artists from each area will participate in conversations and activities, familiarizing themselves with some major AR technologies in order to think imaginatively about how AR may assist artistic practice. The organizers will supply all meals throughout the program.

Benefits

• Micro-grants of up to $10,000 are offered for a limited number of AR projects. Any work created during the workshop and/or using grant monies will be fully owned by the artists.
• They also provide a variety of services to our lab graduates, including producing, creative and technical consultation, mentorship, industry networking, equipment loans, distribution, and more.

Requirements for the Storytelling Through Augmented Reality Workshops and Grants

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Kenyans, Ugandans, and Tanzanians who are permanent residents
• I am now residing in the city where the sessions will be held (Nairobi, Kampala or Dar es Salaam)
• In a creative sector, successful. Any kind of artistic expression is accepted.
• It is preferable, but not necessary, to have prior experience in the area of creative technology.

How to Apply for the Storytelling Through Augmented Reality Workshops and Grants

Deadline for submissions:  May 17, 2022. By Friday, May 27, 2022, all successful candidates will be contacted.

On Wednesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 9, 2022, the workshop will be held in Nairobi, Kenya.

On Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14, 2022, the workshop will take place in Kampala, Uganda.

On Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18, 2022, the workshop will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
