For the Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Civic Engagement in the United States in 2022, Professional Fellows is accepting applications.

The Program is a professional development program for rising leaders in Africa, financed by the US Department of State, that aims to share and apply best practices for inclusive civic involvement.

Around 19 disability rights professionals (Fellows) from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Ethiopia will be supported to participate in a 5-week Fellowship Program in the United States.

Worth of Scholarship

As a Fellow, you will be eligible for funding and assistance for the following:

Fees for passport applications (if applicable)
Expenses for visas
Travel between your native country and the United States on a round-trip basis
Internship-related travel inside the United States
For the length of the Fellowship in the United States, you will be covered by accident and health insurance.
Accommodations in the United States
A living allowance is provided to cover the costs of food, housing, and other other expenditures.
Spending money on books and going to cultural events is part of the cultural allowance.
Arrangements for people with disabilities, if necessary.

Requirements for the Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Civic Engagement

To apply, you must fulfill the qualifying requirements listed below. You must be:

between 25 and 40 years old
a Kenyan, Tanzanian, Ugandan, or Ethiopian citizen and resident
qualified for a J-1 visa in the United States
speaking English fluently
capable of reading and writing in English

You should also

Have worked in a professional capacity for at least two years.
Not enrolled in an academic, training, or research program in the United States.
To be eligible, you must be able to go to the United States for a 5-week Fellowship starting in September 2022 or March 2023.
After completing the Fellowship Program, commit to returning to your home country for a total of two years.
