OWSD PhD Fellowship Program 2022 for Women Scientists (Funded)

The OWSD PhD Fellowship Program 2022 is now accepting applications.

Women scientists from science- and technology-lagging countries (STLCs) may apply for the Fellowship to conduct PhD research in natural, engineering, and information technology sciences at a host institution in another developing nation in the Global South.

The fellowship program’s overall goal is to support the formation of a new generation of female leaders in science and technology, as well as their effective engagement in their nations’ scientific and technical growth.

The fellowship program’s precise goals are as follows:

To increase young and brilliant women graduates from STLCs’ access to educational and training opportunities in science and technology.

Women scientists’ scientific productivity and innovation in STLCs should be increased.

To encourage a new generation of bright women to pursue careers in science and technology as leaders.

Encourage female scientists to contribute to their native nations’ long-term development.

On a regional and worldwide level, to allow women scientists from the South to cooperate and network.

Fellowship Support

Candidates have the option of choosing between two study plans:

A four-year full-time fellowship in which the research is carried out exclusively at a host institution in another developing nation in the South.

A sandwich fellowship requires the applicant to be enrolled as a PhD student in her home country while also studying in a host institute in another developing nation.

The sandwich fellowship covers a minimum of one and up to three research trips to the host institution. The initial visit should last at least 6 months.

The total number of months you may spend at the host institution is limited to 20. The financing duration is limited to four years.

The sandwich option, which enables applicants to get their PhD in their home country while accessing specialized researchers and equipment at the host institution, is especially encouraged by OWSD.

The OWSD fellowship covers the following:

  • A monthly stipend to cover basic living expenditures in the host nation, such as lodging and food.
  • During the fellowship time, you will be given a special budget to attend international conferences.
  • For the agreed-upon research time, a return ticket from the home nation to the host institution.
  • Expenses related to visas
  • Contribution to medical insurance each year.
  • On a competitive basis, the chance to attend regional scientific communication seminars.
  • Study costs (including tuition and registration fees) in accordance with the host institute’s expectations.
