Mozilla Technology Fund Bias

The Mozilla Technology Fund promotes initiatives that reveal aspects of how artificial intelligence (AI) systems function, with the goal of reducing bias and increasing openness in AI systems.

They want to finance initiatives that will enable watchdogs (such as engineers and journalists) to hold AI system creators responsible and provide them with tools to decrease bias and promote transparency.

For years, bias has been identified as one of the most significant dangers associated with deploying AI systems at scale.

People whose access to economic opportunity, social connection, education, and banking is increasingly mediated by these systems suffer real-world damages as a result of systemic bias and bias in training data.

AI transparency and documentation best practices must be created as a tool to help unleash responsibility, agency, and fairness in artificial intelligence systems.
