Minority Africa Fellowship 2022 for Journalists & Storytellers (Paid)

The Minority Africa Fellowship 2022 is now accepting applications.

The Minority Africa Fellowship, an initiative of Minority Africa – a digital newspaper that uses data-driven multimedia journalism to convey African minority stories — aims to provide a platform, skills, and mentoring to journalists and storytellers from minority groups throughout Africa.

Fellows will improve their current reporting talents both from a skill and thematic standpoint throughout the course of a six-month paid program, as well as be schooled on the fellowship’s overlapping areas and groups of concentration. This implies that fellows are trained on how to cover groups outside of their local communities and exit the fellowship knowing how to do so.

Program Details

Fellows will be trained by journalists from the Minority Africa newsroom as well as a network of journalists from the Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, Reuters, RFI, CNN, The Guardian, Time, and other legacy media companies tackling current media problems, including one praised by former US President Barack Obama.

Modules on solutions journalism, data journalism, questioning the breadth of inclusive futures within the metaverse, as NFTs and AI adoption rise, and the geopolitics of climate change are among the topics covered in this training program.

Each fellow would have published 12 pieces on Minority Africa at the conclusion of the program. These articles will include a mix of multimedia elements that have been reported as well as thoughts and commentary. The first cohort will run from May to October 2022, and the program will be fully virtual.

Benefits

Fellows will be given a monthly allowance, and receive an internet stipend, and Minority Africa will pay for intra-country travel connected to story coverage.

Minority Africa Fellowship | Eligibility Criteria
