Mercatus MA fellowship: Fellowships are available from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University in the United States for students seeking a master’s degree in economics.

This scholarship is for students who want to pursue an advanced degree in applied economics in preparation for a career in public policy in 2022.

The MA Fellowship program at the Mercatus Center is for students who want to learn more about economics but aren’t planning on pursuing a career in academia.

This fellowship is suited for students who want to engage in public policy in the areas of research, communications, or outreach.

MA Fellows may work on skills such as policy research, strategic communications, outreach, and project management to help them prepare for a future in public policy.

All fellows must take courses toward a master’s degree in economics from George Mason University, and they are encouraged to take electives in courses that will help them improve their ability to conduct and communicate economic analyses of public policy problems.

Fellows also participate in reading groups and career development courses and work with Mercatus researchers and staff for at least 20 hours each week.

Worth of Scholarship

A monthly salary, complete tuition assistance (nine credits each semester), and practical experience doing and distributing research with Mercatus researchers and employees on relevant policy topics are all included in the total reward of up to $80,000 (over two years).

Fellows will collaborate with prominent researchers who have the academic qualifications and practical experience to be leaders in the field of public policy.

Fellows will learn how to conduct research on complicated policy problems and present good economic analyses via academic papers, policy publications, congressional testimony, opinion pieces, and blog posts by working alongside academics.

MA Fellows will also get the chance to collaborate with Mercatus academics and staff to learn how to use written products, video production, media, and podcasts to promote, distribute, and translate economic analyses.

Fellows have gone on to work with federal and state agencies, Congressional staff, think tanks, and university research centers as policy analysts and researchers.

Requirements for the Mercatus MA Fellowship

  • Acceptance to the fellowship program is contingent on admission to George Mason University’s economics MA degree.
  • To be considered for financing, you must complete the regular application for autumn admission to George Mason University’s MA program in Economics and specify on the application that you would want to be considered for funding.
