The United Nations Academic Impact/MCN Millennium Fellowship Class of 2022 is now accepting applications.

The Fellowship is a semester-long leadership development program on your campus designed to help you increase your social impact. An application is all it takes to gain access to world-class training, relationships, and recognition.

On campuses throughout the world, the Millennium Fellowship brings together, challenges, and honors student leadership for UN goals.

Convene: Gather with a group of 8-20 Millennium Fellows on your campus to learn from and challenge one another. During the program, Millennium Fellows meet at least eight times.

Challenge: Develop an action plan for your sessions together as a challenge. Meet together to share your best practices. You could even go a step farther and organize a campus-wide sustainability effort.

Celebrate: When your Fellowship Campus achieves the goals you set for yourself and completes the Fellowship graduation criteria, you’ll get a diploma from the United Nations Academic Impact and Millennium Campus Network.

MCN Millennium Fellowship Class of 2022 | Eligibility Criteria

You must be at least 18 years old, enrolled as an undergraduate at a college or university, and maintain good standing at that institution during the program.
You agree to meet with your Campus Directors and other Fellows on your campus at least eight times throughout the Millennium Fellowship (the program will run from August to December in 2022) to discuss best practices and take collective action.
For the Fellowship sessions, students must meet in person on campus. If you skip sessions, you will be expelled and your Millennium Fellow status will be revoked.

Requirements

In order to finish the fellowship, all Millennium Fellows must meet the following requirements:

Six Fellowship meetings and three virtual events were attended.
In October, submit a 2-3 minute video tour of your current project.
Completion of the entrance and exit evaluations for the program.
Completion of your Millennium Fellowship project’s project report.
Prior to the Fellowship launch, Campus Directors will be expected to attend 4 hours of training, meet with their Co-Director, and schedule one-on-one sessions (15 minutes each) with the Fellows at their Campus Hub. They also agree to continuous communication with Team MCN and produce documentation of their Campus Hub Sessions (minimum once every month).

Selection Criteria

The Honorable Ban Ki-moon expresses succinctly what distinguishes a Millennium Fellow:

“As Millennium Fellows, we want you to provide an example of empathy, humility, and inclusivity. You may embrace global citizenship by forming a strong worldwide network through which you can learn from and support one another. And your willingness to work together may help make the SDGs and UNAI value reality on your campuses and in your communities.”

They’re searching for cohorts and schools that will advocate this curriculum in addition to these guiding beliefs and personality traits. In reality, what this means is:

Frequency: Campus Directors and Millennium Fellows are passionately dedicated to creating capacity via community-building, meeting, and engaging with each other as frequently as possible throughout the Millennium Fellowship in order to fully leverage the curriculum and community.

Buy-in: In an ideal world, everyone from the University President/Vice-Chancellor to the Millennium Fellows gets behind them and supports their vision, initiatives, and collective action. Community members are actively involved in leading and developing Fellows’ Projects or collaborative actions that take place outside of campus.

Impact: Millennium Fellows effectively run their individual projects (achieving their objectives) and, if appropriate, find success in collaborative action (for example, working with the administration to update a campus sustainability plan, or hosting a campus-wide summit on gender inclusion). With MCN and UNAI, Campus Directors and Millennium Fellows share experiences of impact in achieving the SDGs and UNAI ideals.

Continuity: Campus Directors and Millennium Fellows will continue to meet on a regular basis after the Millennium Fellowship ends in spring 2022 (and beyond), with the goal of establishing a strong campus center. Fellows must reapply the following year and/or nominate at least one additional student.

How to Apply for the MCN Millennium Fellowship Class of 2022

From August 2022 to December 2022, the program will take place at chosen universities throughout the world. Applications will be examined on a rolling basis, with suitable students progressing to the second and final round. Please do not fill out this form again.
