Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award 2022

The Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award 2022 has been announced by the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute of New York University’s Faculty of Arts and Science.

Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award

They provide funding for promising early-career creative nonfiction writers to report on an untold story that reveals truths about the human condition.

The Award was established in 2015 by individuals and organizations affected by the life and work of Matthew Power, a widely-traveling and award-winning journalist who strived to live and share the experiences of the people and places he covered.

In March 2014, while on duty in Uganda, Power, a longtime friend of the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, died.

The $12,500 cash prize will be allocated in the following manner:

  • $6,000 when the winning proposal is announced; $3,000 when considerable progress (typically a first draft) is shown; and $3,500 when the proposal is completed and accepted by the Award committee.

Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award Requirements

The Institute wants the Winner’s Work to be of the highest quality.
