The King Hamad Award for Youth Empowerment to Achieve the SDGs 2022 is now accepting applications.

The award honors young people’s efforts to be successful and productive citizens who contribute to the well-being of their communities and the environment, as well as institutions that create the enabling environment and infrastructure for youth to have an impact.

This global award, the first of its kind, reflects His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain’s, firm belief in young people’s potential to lead their communities, countries, and the world toward a better-shared future of peace and prosperity for all people on a healthy and sustainable planet, as envisioned by the world’s most ambitious plan to transform our world – The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Award Categories

Recognizing young contributions to the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals

Category I

Category II: Recognizing enhancers of young engagement, action, and influence in the accomplishment of the SDGs.

Award

  • The King Hamad Award for Youth Empowerment to Achieve the SDGs is worth $20,000 for youth action and $25,000 for youth enablers. Following the awarding event, the Award will be distributed in full as a one-time reward.
  • All King Hamad Award winners will be invited to the awards ceremony, which will take place in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Ministry of Youth and Sports will pay for each of the eight winners’ flights and accommodations to attend the awards ceremony.

King Hamad Award | Eligibility Criteria

Category I: Recognising youth contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals

Applicants from all UN member countries are welcome.

Applicants may be individual youth between the ages of 15 and 35; a youth-led entity (defined as any business in which at least 50% of current management/leadership is under the age of 35); or a youth-focused entity (defined as any entity, in which at least 90 percent of resources serve youth above 15 and below 35 years of age).

Category II: Recognizing enhancers of young engagement, action, and influence in the accomplishment of the SDGs.

Open to organizations that are legally recognized and registered in a UN member state that work in one of the four sectors listed below:

  • government and the public sector;
  • the private sector;
  • NGOs, Professional, and Labour Organizations and Foundations; and
  • the media.

How to Apply for the King Hamad Award

The deadline for submissions for the Award is July 1, 2022, at midnight Bahrain time. By October 2022, all winners will be notified of their selection.
