Julius Nyerere Masters Scholarship for Tanzanian Students in UK 2022

For the academic year 2022/23, the University of Edinburgh is accepting applications for the Julius Nyerere Masters Scholarship for Tanzanian Students in the United Kingdom.

Julius Nyerere Masters Scholarship

In commemoration of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the Julius Nyerere Scholarship was established in 2009.

He led Tanganyika to independence in 1961 and went on to become Tanzania’s first Prime Minister and eventually President.

Nyerere was awarded a scholarship to the University of Edinburgh in 1949, where he earned a Masters of Arts degree.

He took English, Political Economy, Social Anthropology, British History, Economic History, Constitutional Law, and Moral Philosophy classes at that time.

Worth of Award

The scholarship will cover Tuition Fees and an annual stipend of £13,500.

Julius Nyerere Masters Scholarship Requirements

It is vital to remember that the scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis.

  • made to a Tanzanian student who has been admitted to the MSc in Africa and International Development on a full-time basis.
  • Academic excellence is the criterion for awarding this prize. As a result, applicants must have or anticipate to receive, the equivalent of a UK first-class or 2.1 Honours degree in a Humanities or Social Science topic at the undergraduate level.

How to Apply for Julius Nyerere Masters Scholarship

Candidates must

  • provide a personal statement for the scholarship application that explains why you are applying for the award, as well as your background and goals in the area of Africa and International Development.
