The University of Bonn International Joint MSc Program 2022, Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security is now accepting applications.

The two-year Master of Science program’s major goal is to provide postgraduate students with the precise information, critical understanding, tactics, and tools they’ll need to adopt an interdisciplinary approach to environmental threats and human security.

The Master’s program focuses on theoretical and methodological debates in geography in order to better understand the complex emergence of environmental risks and natural hazards, their implications for human-nature relationships (vulnerability, resilience, and adaptation), and how to deal with them in practice.

The course provides a unique combination of advanced conceptual and applied engagements within the field of environmental risks and human security in an international context as a joint program offered by the Department of Geography at the University of Bonn and the United Nations University in Bonn.

International Joint MSc Program Requirements

Applicants must have a first higher education certification in Geography or a related/relevant academic discipline (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent)The majority of attended courses (as represented in your transcripts) must be relevant to the three categories below out of all acquired academic results (Bachelor’s, Master’s, supplementary coursework, etc.).

With an emphasis on geographical patterns, civilization, and development, Human Geography, and Social Sciences

Methodologies of science and empirical research;

Earth System Science is the emphasis on Physical Geography, Geosciences, and Environmental Sciences.

To study in this Master’s Program, you must have a strong desire to contribute to the field of human security and risk management connected to environmental change. Applicants should have a strong desire to study in a multicultural, multidisciplinary setting.

Except for native speakers from the following countries: Australia, Canada, Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States, all candidates must submit confirmation of their English language competency.

In addition to the regular qualifying criteria for the Master’s degree, eligible applicants interested in the scholarship should meet the following requirements:

Being a candidate from a poor nation that qualifies (see list);

By the time of application, you must have acquired at least two years of relevant work experience (e.g., with an NGO, GO, or in the private sector) since your bachelor’s degree.

By the time of application, you must have completed your previous academic degree no more than 6 years ago;

No other Master’s degree in a related subject of study has been completed;

Following the completion of the Master’s program, intending to work as a practitioner in the field of development (not in an academic discipline/not pursuing a Ph.D.);

If accepted into the program and awarded a DAAD EPOS scholarship, you must be willing to fully commit to the Joint Master’s degree.
