Improving Young Mothers’ Mental Health Literacy Scholarship 2022

For the academic year 2022/23, Western Sydney University is accepting applications for the Improving Young Mothers’ Mental Health Literacy Scholarship in Australia.

The project’s overarching goal is to create a digital resource that aids young mothers throughout their perinatal journey from the bottom up. This is a prophylactic measure to help them maintain their mental health. The PhD student will be fully immersed in the project and will be able to investigate research problems that emerge during the creation and implementation of this resource. It contains, but is not limited to, the following:

• What are the mental health and well-being experiences, needs, and expectations of young moms throughout the perinatal period? What are the differences between socio-cultural groups?
• What are the stakeholders’ perspectives on the requirements of young mothers? And how may they put mental health literacy resources to use and benefit from them?
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of developing a co-designed, lived experience-informed learning resource aimed at young mothers?
• How beneficial is a co-created digital resource in improving the well-being of young mothers?

Worth of Scholarship

• Domestic applicants will get a $30,000 tax-free stipend every year for up to three years to help with living expenses. The Fee Offset for the Research Training Program (RTP) backs this up.
• International applicants will get a $30,000 tax-free stipend every year for up to three years to help with living expenses. A tuition cost waiver will be available to those who have a great track record.
• Support for training, conference attendance, fieldwork, and other research fees that the School has authorized.

Improving Young Mothers’ Mental Health Literacy Scholarship | Eligibility Criteria

The ideal candidate would be:

• ready to learn and grow in the areas of participatory research, co-design, and digital media
• eager to collaborate with others in a team setting
• eager and very driven to pursue higher education.
• willing to travel around NSW to do fieldwork

They must also

• have a good knowledge of the relevance of mental health in children and adolescents.
• have exceptional writing and verbal communication abilities
• have one of the following credentials and experience an Australian First Class Bachelor (Honours) degree; (ii) a coursework Master’s degree with at least 25% research component; (iii) a Research Master’s degree; or (iv) comparable overseas credentials.
• exhibit outstanding academic achievement in courses relevant to one or more project areas of interest, such as qualitative and participatory approaches, socioeconomic determinants of health, adolescent mental health, education and training, and digital media, to name a few.
