Huduma Fellowship for Emerging Civic & Public Sector Leaders in Uganda in 2022

The Huduma Fellowship for Emerging Civic and Public Sector Leaders in Uganda in 2022 is being offered by the LéO Africa Institute and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.

Huduma Fellowship

The Huduma (Swahili meaning Service) Fellowship is a collaboration between the LéO Africa Institute and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung to give thought leadership training to Uganda’s rising civic and public sector leaders. Every year, 15 great champions who work in civic and public service or want to do so will be enrolled in the program. These leaders, who come from a variety of fields, will get a year of training in different facets of leadership, public relations management, and policymaking.

The program will provide fellows with chances to learn about “servant” leadership values, networking opportunities, and a greater grasp of Uganda’s public sector, all of which will help them develop as conscientious civic and public sector advocates.

Worth of Scholarship

The Huduma fellowship is organized around a series of two seminars and two workshops, with time spent at the Fellows’ workplaces and occasional interaction with faculty members as they continue to study and apply the information and skills learned.
Fellows from outside the government’s ministries, departments, and agencies will be assigned to any of the aforementioned departments for practice sessions and to understand how the government works. To boost learning and experience sharing, feedback from these placements and time spent at work will be brought back to the online sessions, workshops, and seminars.

Requirements for the Huduma Fellowship | Eligibility Criteria

  • Individuals between the ages of 25 and 35 who have a demonstrated interest in volunteering, civic engagement, and public service will be considered for the Fellowship.
  • The fellows will be early-stage professionals in Uganda’s civic and public sectors who are intellectually inquisitive and passionate about public policy.
  • Individuals with a demonstrated interest in public affairs are also eligible for the fellowship.

How to Apply for the Huduma Fellowship

All applications must be submitted via the official website.

The evaluation of prospective Fellows will take place on two levels:

A set of indications will be used to evaluate each individual application. In order for members of the Selection Committee to have a fair sense of who you are, you must be honest in your application.

A chat with a member of the Institute faculty will serve as the second step of this evaluation. Shortlisted applicants will have the chance to describe their career aspirations and experience in the public sector in further depth at this level. Additional information that was not available during the application stage will be provided during the evaluation. At this point, the applicant will share their expectations for the Fellowship with a faculty member, which will be evaluated at the conclusion of the program.

Deadline: April 29, 2022.
