Geospatial Scholarship Fund at the University of East Anglia in the UK 2022

The University of East Anglia is accepting applications for the UK Geospatial Scholarship Fund for the academic year 2022-2023.

This award is designed to promote and assist students of Black African, Caribbean, Black, or mixed Black origin who are studying geography or geoscience. These students are being highlighted because they are underrepresented in the areas of geography and geoscience.

As a result, the scholarships will:

• Encourage pupils to consider geography and geoscience as viable career options.
• ​Students should get financial and other forms of assistance throughout their studies.
• Increase the amount of Black and mixed-race students who are studying and working in these fields.

Worth of Scholarship

• In light of this, two prizes will be given out each academic year:
• £30,000 undergrad scholarship to study geography or geoscience (£10,000 per year). The prize money can be used for fees or upkeep. ​
• Master’s Award of £20,000 (full-time 1 year Master’s) for studies in geography or geoscience subjects.

Geospatial Scholarship Fund at the University of East Anglia | Eligibility Criteria

You must satisfy the following conditions to be considered for the undergraduate award:

• You are of Black or mixed Black ancestry.
• You’ve been offered a place in a UK university to study the following starting in September 2021:

1. A bachelor’s degree in geography or related geoscience is required.
2. A GIS master’s degree or a programme with a major GIS component

• At least one of the following applies to you: You

1. Having met the criteria for free school lunches
2. are you a young caregiver?
3. are a well-cared-for child
4. Your family has a yearly income of less than £18,480.

• You should be able to explain how and why the scholarship will help you achieve your educational and professional goals.

How to Apply for Geospatial Scholarship Fund at the University of East Anglia

Visit the Geospatial Scholarship Fund’s website to apply.

Submit a 90-second film, a 500-word essay, or another media of your choice that responds to the following question:

What do you plan to accomplish with your new skills, knowledge, and qualifications? Why is geography or geosciences important to you?

What exactly will you have to do?

• Fill out a questionnaire with some personal information.
• Introduce yourself in a cover letter.
• Submit one of the following:

1. a YouTube link to your unlisted application video
2. Please submit an application essay.

• You might also include links to any relevant materials to back up your application (optional)

The deadline to submit an application is April 7, 2022. In May 2022, the Esri UK Annual Conference will reveal the winners.
