Futures of Demography PhD Scholarship: The Australian National University is accepting applications for the Futures of Demography PhD Scholarship for the academic year 2022/2023.

The Australian National University’s College of Arts and Social Sciences (“the College”) may provide a number of “ANU Futures of Demography Ph.D. Scholarship (“the Award”) each year.

The award’s goal is to help high-achieving local and foreign Ph.D. students working on demography research at the Australian National University.

The ANU Futures Scheme Grant provided funding for this Award, which was administered by the School of Demography at the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences.

Worth of Scholarship

HDR Fee Remission Merit Scholarship

International winners will also be given an HDR Fee Remission Merit Scholarship, which will cover the International Student Fees for the standard term of the Higher Degree Research (HDR) program if they are judged as competitive in a merit-based selection procedure.

Relocation Reimbursement

Reimbursement may be requested as a one-time payment to beneficiaries to help with relocation expenses incurred in starting their HDR program, including those spent in respect of the recipient’s spouse, de facto partner, and dependent child or children. When claiming a relocation reimbursement for a recipient’s spouse, de facto partner, or dependent child or children, they must follow or join the recipient in Canberra within 12 months of the recipient starting their HDR program. Recipients who live outside of the Australian Capital Territory or who are permanently resident outside of Australia at the time of application are eligible for a one-time relocation reimbursement of up to $1,000 for domestic students and $2,500 for international students to cover the costs of moving to Canberra to enroll in an eligible HDR program.

Reimbursement for Thesis

Reimbursements are granted to Futures of Demography Ph.D. Scholarship winners to help with ancillary expenditures while enrolled in a qualified HDR program.

Recipients get a $500 one-time compensation for services related to the development of their thesis.

Requirements for the Futures of Demography PhD Scholarship

Each year, the Award will be given to a prospective or continuing student who:

  • is a student from the United States or another country; and
  • possesses a Bachelor’s degree with first-class honors from a recognized institution, or a Master’s degree with a research component or equivalent; and
  • is enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in the Research School of Social Sciences’ Ph.D. program, which is overseen by the School of Demography.
