The word “Faculty” is a very broad word. But in this blog post, I’ll be telling you the educational meaning of faculty.

What is Faculty?

According to the Oxford dictionary of current English the word faculty is:

A group of university departments concerned with a particular area of knowledge.

It is also a division of a University.

Some universities have independent departments, but some put departments under the supervision of a faculty.

A faculty is an organizational unit responsible for delivering academic programs. Some faculties have a number of sub-divisions called schools.

Conclusion:

A faculty is a division within a university or college comprising one subject area or a group of related subject areas, possibly also delimited by level.

In American usage, such divisions are generally referred to as colleges or schools, but may also mix terminology.
