Enel Foundation Open Africa Power 2022 for Young Energy Professionals

The Open Africa Power 2022 competition is now accepting applications.

The Enel Foundation and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) are pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2022 edition of Open Africa Power, the program that has provided a cohort of young energy professionals with a comprehensive set of technical, regulatory, and business skills to help Africa achieve a sustainable energy future for all since its inception in 2018.

This year, the initiative will include up to 150 African students and over 240 alumni, at least half of whom are women, in a range of professional development and leadership activities offered in collaboration with premier academic institutions in Italy and Africa.

Strathmore University, the University of Cape Town, Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano, SDA Bocconi, Florence School of Regulation, and Venice International University will all provide online and residential programs to Open Africa Power 2022.

Components of the Program

Digital African Module (May – June): This will look at the foundations of the global electrical industry through the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals for eight weeks. The following topics will be covered:

  • Technology, legislation, and economics of renewable energy sources;
  • Technology, regulation, and economics of networks;
  • The electrical business is becoming digitalized thanks to ICT.

Regulation for SDG7 Online Course (May – October): Participants will receive a complete view of how to develop the right policy and regulatory frameworks required to secure sustainable energy for everyone via this five-month course. This course must be completed in order to be considered for the Italian Module.

Italian module (October – November): The course will be held in Italy (decision subject to the evolution of the COVID situation). The best achievers from the previous two modules (chosen also on the basis of their capstone projects) will spend two weeks in this residential module exploring the new frontiers of the electrical industry and experiencing firsthand innovation. They will be expected to meet with prominent academic partners and research representatives, meet with government, commercial, and non-profit leaders, participate in a conversation about Africa’s clean energy future, and tour places where breakthrough electrical technologies are being developed.

Give back module: Alumni will be participating in teaching activities relating to Enel Foundation education programs in Africa after completing the Italian module.
