TWAS – Elsevier Foundation Project Grants for Gender Equity and Climate Action 2022

The TWAS – Elsevier Foundation Project Grants for Gender Equity and Climate Action 2022 is being offered by the World Academy of Sciences.

Elsevier Foundation Project Grants

Grants are provided to groups of two to five women for action-based projects that, although scientific in character, will take them beyond the lab to promote real and concrete change in their local context under the banner of the “climate action” SDG. The main candidate and project leader is a female scientist with a PhD who lives and works in a nation where science and technology are behind (STLC). Co-applicants are scientists or technical professionals from any developing nation who are expertise in a subject relevant to the project.

Under the umbrella of the “climate action” SDG, the TWAS – Elsevier Foundation Project Grants for Gender Equity (SDG #5) and Climate Action (SDG #13) is a new program established in response to the dual need to support women’s well-being through capacity-building of female scientists and respond to the causes and consequences of climate change with concrete action-based projects.

The program is community-focused: projects that respond to the needs of, and development requirements of, the applicants’ community and/or national or regional context in one of the 66 scientifically and technologically lagging countries will be considered in a competitive, open call for applications (STLCs).

The TWAS – Elsevier Foundation Project Grants Programme for Gender Equity and Climate Action seeks to achieve the following goals:

  • Promote gender equality by providing chances for women to participate in climate change initiatives that take them outside of the lab, allowing them to hone their scientific talents while learning soft skills like project management and leadership via training.
  • Respond to and address the needs of communities in ways that are consistent with the principles of sustainable development, with a focus on those who bear the brunt of climate change.
  • Under the umbrella of “climate action” SDG, effectively transmits information from scientific study to real-life settings for practical and meaningful change.

Worth of Grant

  • Individual scientists may get up to USD 40,000 in research grants.
  • The funds, which typically last for 24 months, may be used to buy scientific equipment, consumables, and specialist literature (textbooks and proceedings only). They do not pay researcher and/or student wages, field expenditures, or travel costs. Purchases of computers, iPads, drones, and research animals are also not permitted.

Elsevier Foundation Project Grants | Eligibility Criteria
