For the academic year 2022, the Brookings Institution is accepting applications for the Echidna Global Economy and Development Scholars Program in the United States.

Echidna Global Economy and Development Scholars Program

The Echidna Global Scholars Program invites you to apply for a visiting fellowship at the Brookings Institution’s Center for Universal Education.

The program is designed to help NGO leaders and academics with extensive experience and linkages to poor nations improve their research and analytical abilities.

Echidna Scholars work at Brookings for four to six months on global education challenges, with an emphasis on enhancing learning opportunities and results for girls in poor countries.

  • It provides a venue for study, high-level conversation, and public debate on a variety of educational challenges, with a concentration on the developing world.
  • Scholars will be assisted in implementing initiatives in their local communities that expand on their research results, and they will become part of a growing alumni network of global leaders working to improve the lives of girls and young women in nations and regions throughout the globe.

Echidna Global Economy and Development Scholars Requirements

The program expects Echidna Global Scholars to:

  • Conduct in-depth professional research, prepare an evidence-based policy paper, and discuss their findings and policy proposals at Brookings events.
  • Participate in activities that increase capacity, such as the leadership development program and individual and group reflections.
  • Develop a post-residency project proposal with the goal of broadening the effect of their study when they return home.
  • Interact professionally with other Brookings academics and members of the community, and take an active role in Brookings activities (organizational meetings, informal talks, seminars, presentations, private and public events), especially those related to CUE and Global Economy and Development.
  • Participate in additional meetings and conferences, as well as network with the wider development community, to engage with important players from the extended research, practice, and policy community in their home countries, in and around Washington, DC, and internationally.

How to Apply of Echidna Global Economy and Development Scholars

The following items must be included in the initial application materials:

  • A cover letter outlining your aims and intentions for the program, as well as your CV or résumé, which should contain your education and professional experience, a list of publications, and any fellowships, honors, awards, supported research, or foundation funding you have earned.

The completed application for the Echidna Global Scholars Program.

  • Last Name First Name document name (for example, Doe Jane CV) is the format that must be used when saving documents.

Note that letters of recommendation, writing samples, and transcripts are NOT required.
