The Center for Fiction/Susan Kamil Emerging Writer Fellowships 2022 are now accepting applications. Early-career New York City-based practitioners who are at a vital point in their growth as fiction writers may apply for the Center for Fiction/Susan Kamil Emerging Writer Fellowships, which include funds, editorial mentoring, and other possibilities.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be current residents of one of the five boroughs and must spend the whole year of the fellowship in New York City.
  • Students enrolled in degree programs are unable to apply.
  • This program assists aspiring authors whose work has the potential to be excellent.
  • Applicants may be of any age, but they must be in the early phases of their careers as fiction authors and have not yet had the assistance necessary to earn substantial acclaim for their work. They define an “emerging writer” as someone who hasn’t had a book or short story collection published by a major or independent publisher, and who isn’t presently under contract for a work of fiction.
  • It is not necessary for eligible candidates to have had tales or book excerpts published in magazines, literary journals, or online. If an applicant signs a contract for publishing or accepts an offer to study in a degree-granting institution during the judging process, he or she must notify us immediately to have the application removed from consideration.

Application

As a double-spaced Word document, submit a fiction writing sample of no more than 7,500 words (.doc or .docx). Page numbers must be included in the submission. A book excerpt or a whole short story might be used as a writing sample.

You may submit numerous pieces as long as the overall word count does not exceed the previously specified limit if you typically write “flash fiction” or “short shorts” (1,000 words or less). On your writing sample, do not include any personal or identifiable information. This information will not be read in writing examples.

Please provide a PDF or jpg image of your evidence of residence to [email protected] after your entry has been properly posted. The ideal evidence of residence is a New York driver’s license or non-ID driver’s card. To prove residence, a PDF of a current utility bill, bank account, lease/rental agreement, or recent pay stub might be utilized.
