The Amazon Alexa Fund and Alexa Startups are thrilled to announce the launch of the Black Founders Build with Alexa 2022 application round.

This is a four-month remote program for up to ten Black-founded firms in North America that can show readiness and capacity to provide new Alexa integration within the program’s timeframe.

The Alexa Fund will invest in each firm chosen for the program, as well as provide specialized technological help from the Alexa Startups Solution Architect and Business Development teams. Founders will be invited to speak at events, engage in panel discussions, and show off their products in demo demonstrations.

Benefits

Every firm chosen for the program will be eligible for a $100,000 investment from the Alexa Fund in the form of a Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE).
Throughout the program, the technical teams of chosen companies will work with Alexa technical specialists and Solution Architects, who will provide guidance on technical elements of Alexa skills and AVS integrations.

Black Founders Build with Alexa Program | Eligibility Criteria

There is at least one Black C-Level Co-Founder in your organization;
Your business is based in North America;
Your business has previously raised at least $250,000.
You have the necessary resources and commitment to complete the planned Alexa skill/AVS integration within the program’s schedule.

Selection Criteria

The following criteria will be used to assess each startup application:

The innovative Alexa skill/AVS integration’s value proposition and the client pain problem it addresses
Progress and company traction (KPIs or measures for revenue/customer/user growth)
Resources and dedication to completing Alexa skill/AVS integration within the program’s schedule
Differentiation in the marketplace
With underlying growth, this is a sizable sector.
At least $250K in financing is required (venture capital, friends and family, angel investors, grants, etc.)
Ability to produce due diligence documents throughout the application, shortlisting, and final selection processes.
Participation in all aspects of the program is required.
The company is based in North America.
At least one Black co-founder at a senior level

How to Apply for the Black Founders Build with Alexa Program

If you’re interested in participating in this program, submit your two-step application by April 24, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. PT.

Fill out a brief form. Check your email after submitting the form to complete the survey, which will provide a short proposal for the Alexa skill or AVS integration you wish to work on. If you make it to the next phase, you’ll be invited to meet with Alexa Startups’ Business Development and Solution Architect teams for an interview.
