Fully-Funded Between the Lines International Writing Programme in USA 2022

The University of Iowa is accepting applications for the “Between the Lines” International Writing Programme in 2022.

Between the Lines (BTL), a cultural exchange program focusing on the art and practice of creative writing has welcomed young authors at the University of Iowa since 2008. Participants, ages 15 to 18, gather in Iowa City for a two-week intensive training.

They reside in campus dormitories throughout the session and spend their days in creative writing workshops and global literature seminars aimed at broadening their literary horizons and deepening their empathy for and understanding of one another’s identities and experiences.

Between the Lines: Peace and the Writing Experience (for students from the United States and 28 other countries) and Between the Lines: Identity and Belonging (for students from the United States and 28 other countries) are two summer sessions offered by BTL (for students from the U.S. only).

Participants increase their literary horizons, enhance their empathy and knowledge of one another’s cultures, and improve their communication skills with the help of experienced American and foreign authors. The whole program is delivered in English.

Between the Lines: Peace and the Writing Experience is made possible by a collaboration with the US State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The University of Iowa, Prairie Lights Bookstore, and other local organizations and university departments are among the partners.
