ASUP Strike Notice – Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) issues one month strike notice due to the government’s failure to comply with their demands. If the government does not fulfill agreements reached with the union, polytechnic employees under the administration of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) have vowed to resume strike action that was suspended in 2021.

Anderson Uzeibe, ASUP’s national president, made the announcement at the conclusion of the union’s 102nd National Executive Council meeting, claiming that the decision was necessitated by the government’s failure to fulfill key sections of the plan of action reached with the union nine months ago.

ASUP Issues One Month Strike Notice

According to Uzeibe, the government has failed to deliver the first tranche of the N800 billion revitalization fund, which was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari nine months ago.

He also mentioned the nonpayment of outstanding minimum wage arrears, the non-release of reviewed normative instruments for institutions, management, and accreditation, the violation of the Federal Polytechnic Act as modified in 2019, and the delay in the appointment of rectors as additional difficulties.

Uzeibe cautioned that if the government and other polytechnic system owners continue to break laws and signed agreements, the union would not hesitate to engage in industrial action, which has become the most effective means for employees to put pressure on the government.

The union said that by doing so, it has set the government a one-month deadline to resolve the lingering concerns, failing to do so will result in the suspended strike resumption.
