American Psychological Foundation (APF) Queen-Nellie Evans Scholarship 2022

The 2022 American Psychological Foundation (APF) Queen-Nellie Evans Scholarship is now accepting applications.

The Queen-Nellie Evans Scholarship will honor excellent graduate students from underrepresented groups who have proved financial need and are devoted to addressing societal injustices and concerns that disproportionately affect communities of color, especially those of African heritage, including:

• The underlying causes

• Interventions

• Affects on individual mental and physical health and well-being, whether direct or indirect

• Wider severe social or psychological consequences for the people who are affected

Background for 2022 American Psychological Foundation

In honor of his grandmother and mother, Arthur Evans, Jr., Ph.D. founded the Queen and Nellie Evans Fund.

Evans is the current CEO and executive vice president of the American Psychological Association. He is a clinical and community psychologist as well as a healthcare developer.

As the commissioner of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services, Evans has done remarkable work to empower historically oppressed persons and communities.

He has received national and worldwide recognition for his efforts.

He was named an Advocate for Action by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in 2015.

AFP has been able to fund graduate students who are dedicated to improving the situation of underprivileged communities because of Evans.

Scholarship

• A $4,000 scholarship is offered annually.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be graduate students enrolled in an institution or university that is accredited.

• Must be able to show a financial necessity

• Be dedicated to addressing social inequalities and concerns that disproportionately affect people of color, especially those of African heritage.

Those who meet the following criteria are given priority:

• Are pursuing a career in academics, clinical service delivery, or government policy;

• After completing their graduate degrees, regard their employment as assisting in the improvement of the conditions of neglected populations;

• Are people who live in the areas they want to help; or

• Have a track record of working with underserved groups

The application must include:

• Statement of purpose

• CV

• A transcript of grades

• Recommendation letter

• Documents proving financial necessity (FAFSA, EFC, etc.)
