African Photobook of the Year Awards in Switzerland 2022
The Eiger Foundation is accepting submissions for the African Photobook of the Year Awards, which will be held in Switzerland in 2022.
With a focus on the African continent, the Eiger Foundation African Photobook of the Year Awards honors the photobook’s contribution to the growing story of photography.

Worth of Award
- The photographer(s)/artist(s) whose final, publicly accessible photobook is considered to be the finest of the year will receive a $20,000 prize.
- The jury will choose five novels for the shortlist, which will be published on the Eiger Foundation website with remarks from the judges. The four photographers that finished second and third on the shortlist will each get a $3,000 reward.
- The shortlist will be released on or around September 1, 2022, and the winner will be revealed soon afterward.
African Photobook of the Year Awards Requirement
- The Eiger Foundation African Photobook of the Year Award honors a book in which photography is the primary material and one or more photographers’ work is included (s).
- Physical copies of the book are required.
- Between January 1, 2019, and January 1, 2022, books must be created or published.
- Only the photographer, the publisher, or a third party acting with the photographer’s permission may submit entries for either prize.
- Books must be published on the African continent by an African photographer or a publisher based on the continent.
- Non-African photographers and non-African publishers may also submit books with an African subject.
- Text-only publications, as well as exhibition catalogs or museum publications, are not eligible.
- Photographs from any genre or subject may be included in the book.
How to Apply for African Photobook of the Year Awards
Please note that you will need to provide the following information on the submittable entry form:
- Book title, year of publication, and publisher information
- Book blurb, a short description/summary of the book
- The photographer or author’s name
- Book dimensions, number of pages
- Distribution information
- An image or render of the book cover (JPG file)
- A digital copy of your book in PDF format
